When the Huffington Post launched in London, we teamed up with Smesh and POKE to create a cinema screen-sized Twitterwall. The aim was to engage the world in what was to be a star-studded event. The expert panel included Alastair Campbell, Kelly Osborne, Shami Chakrabarti, Celia Walden, Richard Bacon, and last but certainly not least, Arianna Huffington.
The design of the wall included a stream of tweets, as well as a massive area in which a singular tweet could be picked out and made the 'hero' if it was particularly relevant, interesting or funny.
The pundits were positioned in front of the Twitterwall and took part in a lively news debate.
The audience on site at the Curzon Cinema in Millbank Tower, as well as people following the debate from outside of the venue, collectively contributed to the conversation by including the event hashtag in their tweets. This enabled participants to become a part of the panel and engage in the discussion. With the help of some brilliant moderators controlling the commentary, the event ran very smoothly.
The launch was a great success, reaching 1 million unique users, generating 1,650 tweets of #HuffPostUK on the night, with a massive 66% of tweets coming from outside the venue.
