Dandelion by Sennep View video >
Brief: Commissioned by onedotzero for a special exhibition of motion graphics, short films, interactive design, music and architecture at the V&A in London , the brief was to create a new piece of work in response to permanent objects and spaces within the museum. Sennep was allocated a space in the Fashion Room which covers four centuries of European fashionable dress. The exhibition called ‘Transvision' formed part of the Contemporary Programme's ongoing remit of linking contemporary practice to the V&A's historical collections through gallery-based installations. The primary audience was visitors to the V&A. Solution: We wanted to create a simple and enchanting piece that would illuminate the collection and encourage visitors to explore and react to the museum space and its exhibits in a totally new light. The inspiration to create an interactive dandelion came from the delicate, floral dresses displayed in glass cabinets. We modified a hairdryer to create an illusion of air blowing the projected dandelion's seeds across the museum wall, reflecting in the surrounding glass cabinets and layering the digital image onto the historic dresses. We believe the fantastic response we received is due to the instant, simple and almost magical user experience. The Dandelion has since been exhibited in New York at ‘WIRED NextFest' in September 06 and in Denmark at ‘ Nordic Exceptional Trendshop' in December 06. Related links:
